All about Me & My Research Interests

I'm Ruth and have been researching my family tree since about 2002.

I was inspired by my grandmother, Mary Davidson who always talked about her extended family. I wanted to know more about these people, who were they? Where did they come from? What did they do?

Once I started researching I got the bug and have not stopped since. To fund my research I work as an Optometrist during the week.

I am married to Luke who is very supportive of my hobby, as it means he can spend time playing computer games whilst I do my research!

I also have another blog where I tell you about "my favourite things" mainly my adventurous travels and food.

  1. Hi, I live in Shipley, West Yorkshire. Our house was rented to a Mrs Poole between 1922 (possibly earlier) and 1925. I haven't managed to find out anything else about her so far. Do you know where your great great grandmother lived?

  2. Hi Jenny,
Thanks for commenting, my direct line of Poole's by the 1920s as far as I am aware were living near Horsforth rather than in the Shipley area, but I do know some of the more distant cousins were in the Shipley area until much later, I will need to do a bit more research and get back to you. Do you have a first name and was it definitely a Mrs rather than a Miss Poole? Was there a Mr Poole that you're aware of? Are you researching the history of your house?
    Thanks Ruth

  3. Hi Ruth,

I work for The British Newspaper Archive and am building a list of bloggers who would be interested in receiving press releases about our latest news.

I noticed that you'd mentioned us before and wondered whether you might like me to add you to the list?

    Best wishes,

    1. Hi, I have not researched my Holmes family line that far back. The eldest Holmes ancestor I have researched is Joseph Holmes c1805 in Wittick, Leicestershire who married a Ann or Hannah, so not sure I can be of much assistance with your Holmes family. I currently live in Bradford, West Yorkshire not a million miles from Baildon! Good luck with your research

  5. I am researching Holmes, I have got back to william holmes 1700 who married grace wilson (from leicestershire) married 1725 in baildon.. unfortunately people on ancestry have it seems confused nicholas holmes from nottinghamshire and that appears to be wrong (i have spoken to a family member from that district, that william died in nottinghamshire on his nephews farm, so its not our william who died in baildon. i am trying to locate john or william holmes father of william in or around baildon at that time. Its very hard when you are in NZ to get more details on the local history. I will keep looking..... My father is a Holmes from Ilkley Yorkshire. he is still living. I can be contacted at silver_nz_2000@hotmail.com.

    1. Hi,
It appears not to be a link with the Holmes family I am researching as I have no links to Baildon in this family but the family seems very rooted in Nottingham for many generations before moving to Leeds. Thanks for contacting me though.

  7. Hi Ruth
I have been doing my family tree for many years and, as you know, we keep going back to different branches in the hope of finding something new.
I randomly Googled, John Davidson, Royal Marine musician 1827, and found your website. I was amazed to see the information you have amassed regarding our mutual ancestor John. He was my 3rd Gt Grandfather, Eliza my 2nd Gt Grandmother, Peter Copeland my Gt Grandfather and Eliza Jane Copeland was my Nan.
Like yourself, I don't know that much about John but if you have any snippets of information that I would be interested in, I would love to hear about them.
My tree is on my Husband's Ancestry site, if you are interested.
I will plough through your site with interest.
    Kind regards
    Ann Rush

  8. Hi Ruth, Have just discovered your amazing blog and am sure that we share common relatives.
John Davidson's brother, Henry Davidson is my Great Grandfather and I have lots of very early family photos and cuttings you might find interesting. If so, do let me know - it would be good to share them and learn more from you. Regards, Keith John Davidson . kjmdavidson25@gmail.com
