The Book of Me, Written by You - Week 49 - What do I sound like?

Each week there are prompts which require answering.

Week 49 - What do I sound like?

I was born & brought up in East Lancashire, to West Yorkshire parents. Both my parents were Yorkshire born & bred and had Yorkshire accents, but I went to school with many people who had strong Lancastrian accents. Growing up I certainly had a strong East Lancastrian accent with a Yorkshire twang. Since I left home, initially to Brasil then later to Bradford, West Yorkshire my accent has changed and developed. In my opinion my accent is now more neutral than it ever was but possibly slightly more Yorkshire with a Lancastrian twang.

I know there are certain words I say in either a strong Lancastrian accent or a Yorkshire accent:
  • one, two, three... is quite Yorkshire
  • aye & no... Yorkshire
  • down, round, out... Lancastrian with a strong "ow" sound

I used to cringe at my accent, but recently I had done a presentation which was recorded and when I listened to it back I was amazed at how I enjoyed the sound of my own voice in the recording.

I feel that I do not have a high voice, but perhaps a slightly deeper voice. I am definitely more of an alto than a soprano singer.

I have tried uploading a voice recording below of the 2 examples above... (not sure if they will work or not!)
